Double Stereo: Smile Smile @ Emo's
I had a chance to attend Bowling for Soup's show at Emo's awhile back and got to see Smile Smile, Cruiserweight and Riddlin' Kids. Man, I was brought back to 2005. It's been awhile since I've seen any pop punk bands so this was a good nostalgic night.
Anyway, the main reason why I was there was to shoot photos of Smile Smile for Ian's review for Double Stereo. This band was what they called the "indie break of the night" as they played melodic love songs between Riddin' Kids and Cruiserweight's energetic pop.
But what is interesting about this band is that they were formally engaged. When I first heard the songs on myspace, I noticed the songs were very heartbroken laments and yearnings to keep a relationship together. It wasn't until after the show I was informed that they formed this band while they were together but also kept the band together after the break up. Wow. While my ex and I are still somewhat friendly, I couldn't still be in a band with him playing songs that could be about me and the hurt I may have caused. Talk about awkward.
And now that I think back there was some awkwardness to this show. But nevertheless, the music was adorable even if it didn't fit the lineup

Double Stereo: Interview with Riverboat Gamblers at Fun Fun Fun Fest '09
I believe this is the last interview I shot photos for Double Stereo during Fun Fun Fun Fest. This was with the Riverboat Gamblers.
I felt kinda bad for lead singer, Mike Wiebe, because the lighting was not his friend that day. It was overcast and rainy and no matter what setting I put my camera on, the lighting just clung to him and reflected off his face. I had Ajay stand in his way so it would block the light a little bit and it helped. Anyway, here is the 2 part interview with the Riverboat Gamblers that feature my photography.

Double Stereo: Fun Fun Fun Fest interviews
I attended Fun Fun Fun Fest for ACC's Accent with really no game plan. Since the issue is coming out a little later than the festival, the material will seem a little dated. So we were just gonna write about the bands we saw in little paragraphs just like we did for SXSW.
So I hung out with Ian Morales, my editor from Austin Vida, who also contributes for Double Stereo, and Ajay Miranda, known from 'Nites (check all links on the right), who I also work with at Austin Vida. They were conducting interviews for Double Stereo and doing a video podcast type of thing for each interview with audio and photos. The other photographers were out shooting the live shows, so they needed someone else to take photos of the actual interviews. That's where I came in.
So here are the interviews that feature my photography from Fun Fun Fun Fest. It was fun (no pun intended) and I wish I had the patience to do what Ajay did with editing so I can steal his idea and post more of these on my site. ;)
Pack of Wolves
The Strange Boys
Russian Circles
Red Sparowes
I'll be posting more Fun Fun Fun Festival coverage as I have more time. Right now, I got an interview to conduct.
