One of my favorite thing about pop culture journalism is getting the opportunity to speak to some of the amazing people who define my childhood. When I saw that Cheech Marin was bringing his art collection to Odessa, which is part of Marfa Public Radio’s demographics, I immediately jumped on the chance to interview him.
So of course, this phone interview is one of the highlights of my MPR internships.
I started 2018 with the epic drum solo from Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight,” hoping it’d set the tone for the year.
This year was politically exhausting but great for me career-wise. I covered a lot of marches and protests. I wrote about issues that were important to me. I took photos at lots and lots of music festivals. I participated in the 100 Day Project. I quit my barista gig and became a freelance writer/photographer full-time. My photos were published in the New York Times.
I’m excited to see what 2019 will bring.
